first ---- its a 1988 150 black max mercury out board
i want t o do away with the oil inj, system. the reason is i replaced a check valve in her that was supposed to solve the problem the engine was getting to much oil and would not start, when i did get her running it would smoke alot[i mean ALOT] so i think im going to just add the oil to the gas but what and how do i eliminate the system 1st take the two tanks out 2-then what? i have alarm systems and im sure there must be hoses some where but i would love if i can get a step by step on how to do it any help would be appreciated cause then i dont have to worry about valves and hoses and leaks i still have alot to do to my baby but i will get it done thanks

The one Merc 150 I owned didn't have oil injection so I have no experience but I did a Google search and found a few things to look over.

like rmb said. the big dogs will be along soon. they used to make a kit with a plate that plugged the hole when you pulled the pump. cap the line going to the fuel line, cap the pulse line going from the block to the remote tank and i think just unplug the wire to the pump & the cap on the onboard tank. doing this from memory, so might have missed a thing or two.
i have a 94 mariner that i am still using the oil injection. it smokes like willie nelson's bus for about 2-3 minutes, then clears up. |

randleman great articles thanks now i have some where to look for advice but any one else that actually did it would be great advice, is it hard to do?

easy way: loop the oil line around from the inlet side to the outlet side of the oil pump, disconnect the wires from the oil tank, oil pump sender and the oil alarm module, ditch the module.
next best way, remove the pump, pull the adapter out, pull the gear out, put the oil pump back on, ditch the sender and module. Best way, order the oil pump block off kit from Mercury, follow their directions, ditch the electrical stuff. The mercury kit fills the void left from the removal of the oil gear and adapter, ensuring equal crank case volume for better power and cylinder balance, It will also prevent the drive gear bushing from falling out(never seen it happen) |

thanks again you guys are the best i will be doing that so i dont have to find out why my motor gets full of oil when i let her sit, i replaced the pulse valve [check valve ] and was told that was the problem only to have it ha[[en again the only other choice i have is to disconnect the system
