Default Evinrude 115 problems

i realize this is a wellcraft fourm, but you guys have seemed quite knowledgable so far, so maybe yall can help me.

i have an 84 18 fisherman with a 92 evinrude 115 on the back

Model # E115MLEND

a bearing went bad deep in my lower unit last weekend and i found a used lower unit off of an 87 evinrude 90 but the guy doesn't know the model number.

if this lower unit will work on my outboard it would be way cheaper than repairing mine.

does anyone know which lower units interchange?

and if my motor is a 90 degree or 60 degree? (im assuming 90)

and what does crossflow or looping mean and have to do with it all?

Thanks Alot if you can help

Your model number is for a 90 degree crossflow engine. The 87 lower should swap onto it as I don't think OMC made any crankshaft changes to the V-4's as they were gearing up for the 60 degree loopers by then. Just make sure the shift shaft has the same shape to it as your old one. there were some changes to the shift shafts made through the years, but they unthread from the lower and can be swapped. Also you have to make sure and set the height on the shift shaft before you reinstall the lower unit. If the length on it isn't correct it will not shift correctly.
