82 gallon fuel tank?

I found a poly 82 gallon fuel tank from a Grady White for $80. Measures 68x27x12 plus the fill hose which is another 2". I was thinking of mounting it ahead of the 60gallon tank. I have the room lengthwise and widthwise but i have to check out the height. I would rip the infloor livewell out, hell its coming out anyways. I would have to install the tank with the cap off. Is 142 gallons of fuel too heavy for a V? Also thinking of it for a backup incase my 60 gallon tank is not as in good condition as i hope. My main concern is the hieght of the tank. I would like as much fuel capacity as possible, although my original plan was twin 27 gallon fuel tanks in the cuddy. If i do any rig fishing i will need all the fuel i can carry. But is 82 gallons extra just too much?

The distribution of the weight would be my main concern.
If that is no real problem, you don't have to fill up the additional tank, just put in it what you feel you may need to be safe.

Thanks Tsubaki. I just checked the height and it wont fit in the floor space. Its about an inch too tall not counting the filler.

Is it going to look too odd redoing the entire thing by replacing the 60 with the 80?
Or is that just too much aggravation?
I'm always worried about only having a 40gal capability but too sorry to do anything about it.

I am in the middle of trying to figure the same thing out. I think I am going to lean towards putting a 25-30 Gal plastic tank in the rear compartment in the cuddy. there is a place in the city that makes custom fuel tanks (sizes) I will get the right fit in the cuddy to reduce movement and they are foam filled. I will then run a sepreat hose into the filter housing and all should be good for the LONG run to the Holy grail of fishing grounds. It will help me keep the nose down a bit with out the use of the trim tabs on the way out ( I plan on using that tank first) then there should be no weigh issues in the wrong spot. Running out tihs year 10 Miles from shore and floating to up to Alaska was NOT fun and the fuel issue is now #1 on the to do list.

when i had my v it had two saddle bag tanks, 20 gal each. but was a pain when one side was empty, then it would lean one way till i used some out of the other side.
when i converted from i/o to out board i added a 25 gal plastic tank were the i/o was, now i would just run from that tank and just fill the other ones if needed, it worked out great.

Its 80ish miles one way to the oil rigs. Not knowing the fuel consumption of the 2.5L 200 Merc, I want to overkill on the fuel capacity. I want a tank mounted in the belly where the livewell is now. But i would like to install it while the cap is off.

But I like Rednecks idea of using the in-floor compartment in the cuddy.

Tsubaki, I would have to raise the floor around the 82 gallon tank to make it fit. To me its too much work, plus I am building two fishbox, tackle storage, leaning post, and rocket launcher units, (one on each side). I will wait for a better fitting tank or while i have the cap off have one made. I really need to know the condition of my current 60 gallon tank first.

I already have a 16hx12wx36L 27 gallon tank that i need to find a place for.

If my current tank is in bad shape, I will probably have a 100 gallon belly tank built. If i get far enough in welding to feel confident in aluminum, I might just build my own.

Having the engine cover still there made the height a non issue, and made a great place to sit and jig fish.
