Default 1985 Merc 150hp Good or Bad and THANK YOU

Hey guys I am back again,, My buddy back away from the 185hp evinrude thanks to some great advice he got from you guys, he went and asked a few local repair shops and they all said the same as you guys so,, THANK YOU,,,HOWEVER he is now looking at a 1985 150hp merc. I think it is to old but he says it runs great good comp and priced right,,and He is looking to put it on and older V

Back then wasent the HP rated at the motor and not at the prop if so would this be strong enough for the V

Anyone Know of any major issues with this motor I think merc has always made a good motor but it would not be my first chose......

The 150 is at the prop I had a 83 that I ran for 5 years that I just sold because the crank was frozen to the drive shaft if not for that I still be running it. They sound like a funny car, and I had no issues with mine I really liked it..............

The 150 is the "match" motor for a V20, so I'm guessing that it should be fine as far as HP goes.

I have a 200 Merc on a different boat and I love it. I've had a 90 and a 115 inline 6 and now a 200 V6 and truthfully all 3 of them have given me great service with no major problems.

Like any engine, just make sure that it's given the proper maintenance and it should be fine. IMHO
