It does kind of come across a little rude but I can see his point....on a $4000 boat the test drive should be the deal closer....bring my money to the water, if it checks out here's your money and leave with your boat. I guess it would be effective at reducing people wasting your time.....
a gamble though for sure, definitely would turn off alot of buyers.
