Default Old times there are not forgotten...

On this date, January 19, in the year 1807, Robert E. Lee was born. He was a top graduate of West Point and one of the most celebrated generals in American history. President Lincoln offered him the job of commanding the Union forces, but Lee chose to follow his home state of Virginia which at the time was seceding from the Union. He commanded the Army of Northern Virginia and was Confederate president Stonewall Jackson's head military advisor. All before marxist activist Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a twinkle in his daddy's eye 122 years later. So far I've yet to hear or see anything mentioned about Lee's birthday in the news.

And you won't, Lee was a brilliant man who commanded the love and respect from many thousands of men and women. to include the Generals of the northern army many of whom were his closest friends and commrads.
The problem comes from the fact that that one, the south lost the war and the victors always get to dictate history, except that which is handed down from family.
Two as much as I love the south and was born in the south I know that even though it was only one of the issues that caused the succession of the states they were in the hole from the start because of the overwhelming moral issue of slavery, which even many good men of the south could not tolerate. You cannot stand to fight for the horror of enslaving human beings and expect the grace of God and your fellow man.
In the end the greatness of Lee and the courage and loyalty of the men and women of the Confederacy would always play second in the court of human opinion to that overwhelming presence of men women and children in bondage to their fellow man.

Thank you, I consider that an honor. I hope I did not offend any of my good friends down south. That certainly was not my intention. There is no where in the world I feel more like home than the southern states. But I feel very strongly that it is a rare thing indeed when the course of Politics and the course of Honorable men are on the same path. It seems that our history and that of the worlds is fraught with tragic events that men of good faith and honor could of and should have intervened, or tried to and were thwarted. I believe the civil war was one of those events in history.
