Default Just Purchased 74' v20cc

Hey everyone i just purchased a 74' v20cc for the price of 500 bucks with trailor. the boat is in actually decent shape and is very solid. does have a little fiberglass damage but should be fairly easy to tackle. my main question is paint. right now it has bottom paint on it that is in terrible condition. i really want to get all the bottom paint off and paint the whole boat one color. can someone just give me advice on the situation?

also can i paint the boat in the same proccess of a car? spray it on with a spray gun and compressor? how are these products?

Welcome to the site. That Interlux No Sand Primer Sucks. Friends used it, then bottom painted and chunks of bottom paint came off. Even had a Interlux rep show up and show.
Have teh hull sand blasted or soda blasted if you have the cash. If not, there are chemical s astrippers you can buy to remove the bottom paint. Once you remove the bottom paint, hit the hull with 80 grit sand paper. Then apply InterLux Barrier coat, then bottom paint. This all must be brushed painted on. As far as top side painting, yes, you can spray.
Post Pics. of what you got ;D

If ya want a virgin bottom, with no bottom paint, it can be done. SKOOL would know more on this issue. ;)

Welcome to the site.
Post pictures.
Yes you can (used to) get good results with automotive paints, have to ask what is still available (EPA).
Try useing a paint remover such as Strip-Eze and plastic scrapper and then water sanding with sponge sanding blocks and then filling exposed glass with MarineTex and then buffing and waxing.
Also experiment with spray Rustoleum if only small area's really need painting.
You'll be surprised how good the Rustoleum works.

Lumberslinger used "soda blasting" or something like that to remove his bottom paint. It worked great. There is a thread about it somewhere on here.

I made a deal with the guy i bought it from to keep it in his boat yard while i work on it so I am going to check with him to see if he cares if i sand blast in his yard. I think i should be able to find one to rent somewhere hopefully? ill get pictures in the next few days.

Check with the tool rental shops in your area.

You can rent sand or soda blast equipment.

as far as painting information, pick up or down load the Awl Grip painting manual, it should answer all your questions about paint, be fore warned, it will take 10 more sanding than you think, and about 3 times more money. Once you get the manual, go ahead and paper clip all the applications( it explains prep for about any surface you ever thought about) that doesn't apply to your boat so you don't acciditally read the wrong instructions while mixing paint( speaking from experiance)
