Default Mrs Stinkys first buck!!!

Well guys here is the hunt, straight from her mouth onto our local fishing club board. As yall may rememebr Pot Licker/Shane is the landowner/friend i hunt with....

Mrs Stinky:

"Well, Potlicker graciously invited me up again to hunt before the season ended, so I could try for my first buck. ;D

The last time I hunted, the morning hunt was about as enjoyable as having my toenails ripped off... partially because I had to drive for two hours and was so tired it hurt, and also because we didn't see anything. I'm just not a morning person. In fact, if I would have had my choice, I probably would have opted to sleep in the truck for the morning hunt, and just try my luck in the afternoon. But considering the fact that I only get to hunt two weekends a year, I decided to suck it up. Plus, I didn't want to disappoint poor Stinky. He was about as excited as a deer in rut that I got to come, and I didn't want to see him pout. ::)

Stinky walked me to a tripod overlooking a powerline, very beautiful spot. As we walked, he spouted off last minute reminders in an extremely annoying fatherly overtone.... "Now don't forget to unload your gun before you pull it up to the stand...." "If you need anything, just call me on the radio. Is it on? Keep the volume low...." "Now, Potlicker's gonna be walking past you to that stand over there, don't shoot him. He'll be wearing an orange hat."

I got settled in the stand and Stinky left to go to his spot. I was starting to think Shane had decided to go to another spot when I finally saw him trotting up the road well after daylight. He gave me the proverbial handwave/nod as he headed on to his stand, which was about 350 yards ahead of mine, on top of another hill.

I sat for a while and didn't see anything, but it was a beautiful morning. So I just sat back and enjoyed the silence, which is a precious commodity to a mother. A little later in the morning two does quickly made their way across the field. They were followed a little while later by a buck. He was too far away for me to shoot (he was closer to Shane) and traveling too fast. Potlicker would later tell me that the buck only had one horn.

After watching eleven mindless turkeys slowly meander across the field for a while (they look like such dumb animals..... :? ) it HAPPENED. THERE I WAS, bored stiff, dreaming of warm comfy beds, freezing my tail off, when out he came. He came out of the woodline to my left, about 70 yards, and briskly trotted (do deers trot???) his way across the field. Then IT happened..

All of a sudden I was shaking, and sweating, and breathing heavy, and I thought to myself, what is my problem?!? I did my best to follow him with my scope, but I was too nervous to make the shot. I remembered one of Stinky's last minute reminders.... " If you need a deer to stop, just whistle." CRAP! I CAN'T whistle!?!?! :P Before I had time to think much of much else, I saw my buck get closer and closer to the right woodline, and I knew he would soon be gone. I have never felt such frustration in my life. If only he would stop!!!!! God, make the deer STOP!!!!!!!!

And then, the deer stopped. :o I lined up the crosshairs and pulled the trigger. He fell down, got back up and slowly disappeared into the woodline. But I knew I had got him. 8) I radioed Stinky, and he was on his way.

Potlicker and Stinky trailed him and found him in the creek. He's a beauty. 8)

I would find out later that the reason the deer stopped was because Potlicker whistled for me. I just didn't hear it. 8) Potlicker's master hunting guide senses told him I needed him..... You are awesome and I owe you a big kiss!!!!!!!! ;)

We went back to the house and Stinky skinned my deer. After a wonderful country lunch spread prepared by Mrs. Brown, I took a nice nap (another scarce event in my life). 8)

We went again that afternoon to another powerline spot, but didn't see a thing. It was a little too warm, and the wind just wouldn't lie down. But it didn't matter, I had already accomplished my mission for the day. 8)

Can't wait till next season! I may just leave Stinky at home.... "
