Deer Fishing ??????

Last Saturday morning, my buddy Bo Warren and I were trolling for [striped bass] in the Chesapeake Bay. We were 1½ miles offshore in about 80 feet of water contemplating why the fish weren't biting. We looked back to check our gear and saw something odd in the water.
Was it a seal? Can't be, we don't have seals around here.
On closer look, it turned out to be a buck deer that was way off course. He was desperate and barely staying afloat. I've seen deer swim a river or bayou before. When you see that, the first thing you notice is that they are powerful swimmers. Their heads and shoulders are out of the water and they make surprisingly good headway.
This critter was just keeping his nose up and looked like he'd been swimming all night long. In fact, he was so worn out that he swam toward the boat, probably thinking it looked enough like land to him. When he got closer though, he wasn't sure what to make of the two dudes on board, and backed off.
So, since the fish weren't biting, we thought we'd give this buck a hand. It turns out Bo grew up around cows and was really handy with a bowline. He lassoed the deer on the first try! Bo grabbed his neck, I grabbed the flank, and we barreled over backwards into the boat. Before I knew it, Bo was on top of him and had him tied up just like a calf.
We hit the throttle and shuttled him to the closest beach - Kent Point. I beached the boat and we carefully unloaded the deer onto the sand. The whole time we kept thinking he was going to kick the snot out of us. He never did though; he was totally spent. We untied him and jumped back.
Too weak to stand, he just sat there quivering. We even picked him up again and put his feet underneath him, but he still couldn't walk. Don't know if he made it or not, but I think his chances were vastly improved. Hopefully he recovered after time. When you're out and about, you just never know...

If this is the same guy they did have some picks posted on a site with the deer in the water, boat, and then back on dry land.

Dang just as I hit enter I see your pic pop up and yes thats the same photo but they had a few more.

i wqas just checkin out blues boigas in the recipe section. so, y'all know what i thinkin,lol.

glad to see someone helped the critter out though

Yeah its a good thing the SS Stinky Hooker didn't roll up on that lil buck.... 8)

you or me blue, and you got boigas. the ss stinky hooker on the other hand and well, the theme song to the love boat comes to mind,lol.

A few years ago a friend of ours who is a shrimper dropped us on Wassaw Island for a 3 day deer hunt.
Sometime during the second day of the hunt he happened to be dragging between Wassaw and Ossabaw and caught a glimpse of something in the sound.
With his binoculars he could see it was a deer swimming the sound. An hour or so later he made a return trip just in time to scan the surf and watch him the deer make it to the edge of the dunes and sprall out on all fours and just lay there. That was a 3 1/2 mile swim, I guess so!
In the Savannah River at least 30 years ago my uncle had seen a nice buck swimming the river and decided to lassoe it (figuring easy prey). Just letting the deer pull him to the bank in the 12 aluminum boat (he thought) should have tired him out.
When the deer caught a foot hold, he actually drug him, the boat and everything in it up into the woods. I don't remember if the deer broke the rope or if my uncle cut it.
