Default Question about repower

I'm thinkin' of repoweing my 77 V-20 with an OB. I found a new leftover 150 Suzuki 2 stroke FI for 6Gs.
I'm wondering what I can expect out of that size motor speed and range. I have two 25gal saddle tanks.
Also which type/brand seabracket to use. ThX.

that motor is built by Johnson / Evinrude in case you didn't know. You can compare it to them in price and speed of other peoples.

Hammerhead, a FI 2-stroke will be a GREAT repower unit for your V-20 ;)...good price, too...you'll cruise around 30 and top out at a little over 40...it'll probably take a 15 to 15 1/4 x 17 prop to get those numbers...I think you'll like the performance...

Armstrong makes a great bracket, but there are other good ones out there, too...I would think a "flotation" bracket would be helpful...your transom has a curve (side to side) and IDEALLY the bracket should match that curve, HOWEVER a flat bracket can be shimmed and work great...

Hopefully, the others who have done this will jump in here cause they'll have lots of additional tips...

There's a formula to determine the height of the motor based on how many inches it's away from the transom...you should look into this before you start...just ask Willy... ;D...

Im have the Stainless marine bracket with full swim platform, its great!!

But as reel said there are lots of good ones out there, try to get one with floatition!! They are best.

They can cost $1000 to $1600, so ask around for a used one there are pleanty around at great prices!! I payed $400 for mine and someone here just got a nice one for under $400 from ebay.

150 is a good choise and the price you have been quotaed sounds great also!

I have 75 v20 with 175 on bracket and I top out at 40+ but does real nice at 30 or so.

Good Luck and ask away!! My gallery has some pics of my bracket, I had to shim it a bit on the ends cause it was stright accross and came off a 23 Seacraft.

If you go minus the swim platform, it will be cheaper and the curve doesn't come into play.

But if you are buying new they will build to your boats spec's

I just put a new 150 yamaha on my 1994 cc . I just ran the first full tank of gas through it this weekend . It is great . It was a left over 2004 carb. 2 stroke . I'm using the prop off of my old 1994 , yamaha 150 and I'm getting 45mph @ 5500 rpm . Which is 3 mph faster and 200 rpm's more than my old motor produced . While a 200 hp would have been nice I'm very happy with the 150 . It is pleanty of power and it sounds like the price is right .
