Default Katrina & my v20

Been away from the board for a while, been kind of busy down here in south mississippi. :'(

I have a new house now, the old one is better called debris & I'm starting to get things straight, but here's the boat story.

As I always do for storms I took my old truck, car, utility trailer & lawn mower & my 1987 V20 up to Kiln mississippi about 12 miles north of I-10.

The day after the storm as we tried to make it home we stopped by the storage yard in the Kiln & I was amazed that my boat (& attached truck) had moved! :o Then the truth came out even way up north of I-10 there was four feet of water! I have since learned that it was the highest the water got anywhere. :(

Well the truck died (1991 pathfinder with 228k miles) and the little car died but was well insured, I got the mower going but the V20 was better than when I left it, all the leaves had blown out! Only problem is so did the forward hatch. I left the cushions at home & they are gone too but I never used them much. That front hatch is going to be a bugger, anybody ever built one? anybody have dimensions? I'm thinking starboard but I'd have to work out the dimensions & shape of the channel.

Any ideas? I'm about to have time to take care of such things.

Thanks,

Doug

Glad to here you are ok!! I have a friend in Long beach who still has to have permission to get into his area.

As for the front hatch, there is a thread with the excat mesurements, but it isn't going to be easy to make one!! Belive it or not they are a bit involved there are alot of angles to make.

But if you are handy and have the time to go slow you should be able to get it done.
Might be easier to make one out of wood and then use it as a mold, cover it with glass, and then go from there.

I found the thread that had the size

My hatch is missing, I got measurements off a 74 hatch, I hope they are close. They are:

Overall length front to back - 22 1/4"
Overall width - 25 7/8 "

back height- 2"
front Height- 1 1/2"

flange under teak - 1/2" x 18" long

Hope this helps.

Thanks

His 80s hatch is a different hatch than speced in MJ's post...those came from a 70's style...may be that the measurements are close, but it shore LOOKS different to me... ;)...

Like MJ though, glad you're OK... ;)...

If you think the dimensions are the same, I measure and take pictures of my '89. You need both pieces?

Thanks for the concerns, I have friends in the pass & long beach too. I was never checked once going in or out of my place - gee do you think it might be those folks with the mansions on the beach get preferential treatment?

I'm pretty sure a 89 is the same size, so yes please dimensions & pics would be great - there are tons of damaged boats around here & I'm on the search for a v20 I may be able to get parts from but it's been tough so far. I saw pics of one on a levee in New Orleans but I understand they have cleaned that all up now.

Thanks,

Doug

Doug, I will post pictures and dimensions of both pieces for you soon. I have a good friend from Diamond Head (I guess I should say formerly, his family is now in Peachtree, GA.) I hope all you folks down there are able to put the pieces back together soon. Hopefully a few pics and dimensions help.

BTW I did find that boat that was on the levees in new Orleans. It was in Irish Bayou and is still there I hope to go get the numbers to see if the owner may part with it or the hatch.
