Default Beaufort/Cape Lookout May 25

At sun up the ocean was like glass but no birdies anywhere. I caught a limit of blues trolling clark colored hose rigs and one 25 in King. Ran down the shore to the lighthouse and 4 boats were bottom fishing for cobia with live bait but only catching sharks that I saw. I drifted around the inlet there for a couple of hours or so and picked up a nice keeper flounder and two trout on gulp baits. One of the trout was 19 inches and fat. Wind started howling around 1:30 so I beat it back inside (a wet ride) shackelford and put down some clark silver spoons and caught 3 keeper spanish but not very big. I'm off the water for a couple of days as I got too close to an oyster bar last night after dark so I will break out the old marine tex....I'm not sure if it was the flounder sandwich or the Jack daniels that caused me to do that . Why would an oyster decide to build his bar in front of my boat?..Frank

I sometimes fish 3 to 4 days a week if its good and some nights I turn on my dock lights for trout and puppy drum. Last night we got 5 trout up to 18in on gulp baits and my neighbor lost something big, probably one of my pet puppy drum..So far this year I have heen lucky. Last year I had several days where I got nothing.I keep lots of rigged rods on the boat so I can switch from flounder to spanish etc without waisting time rigging .Frank

Smart man!

You are making me want to move to the coast BAD!

Been looking at Oak Island and/or Southport - what are the pros and cons of Oak Island? I know it pretty much got destroyed by a cane in the 50's but what coastal area hasn't?

I dont know that much about North Carolina as I've only lived here for three years. I am familiar with the Beaufort area and I also like Cape Carteret and Emerald Isle both nice areas and easy access to big fishies but I can't help you with the rest of the eastern towns.. I am retired but if you are not, jobs are very hard to find that pay anything ..You can have a Coast Guard 6 pack license with a 100 Ton master along with a towing endorsement and be a dive master with over 2,000 dives and only get $12 and hour for part time work. I still dont understand why wages are so low down here...Frank

I guess there's not enough demand to warrant higher wages?

Nope, I'm not retired. Got the better part of 30 more years to go....well, unless my side-business takes off!

I do copper landscape lighting on the side. I'd really love to move to the coast and do that full time.

One of these days!
