Default SEI Marine Outdrives

Well I took my Alpha one lower unit apart. Bought all the correct tools and they really did great with the disassemble. When I removed the spanner nut around the prop shaft almost all the threads were corroded away. So instead of spending a bunch of money on a 40 year old unit I've decided to buy a new one. SEI makes an aftermarket one with a three year no-fault warranty. Price is 925.00 plus tax and shipping. Has anybody bought or have one, any thoughts?

I purchased a complete drive unit from SEI 2011. I only put about 200 hours on it before I sold the boat. Ran good. Only problem, the paint started to peel off around lower unit mounting bolts and surrounding edges. If I remember correctly they had issues with paint adhesion back then. Don't know if they corrected it or not. I would hope so!

Didn't know you sold your boat. Always admired your boat and your top. Talked with a guy at work and his dad bought a SEI outdrive about seven years ago and hasn't had any trouble with it. Made me glad I decided to buy one. My old lower unit had a bad shift crank. When I took it apart the spanner nut shattered and I broke the earts off of the bearing carrier getting it out. There were no threads left in the housing and it had a crack in the threads behind the prop. Couldnt rebuild that housing, internals looked great, got some spare parts.

Sometimes the expensive option winds up being the cheapest in the long run. Glad you're getting something reliable.

Got it today, looks great! Soon as this shutdown is over I'll give it a try.

Finally got chance to install my new SEI lower unit. Went on really easy and works perfect. Gotta change the oil in my motor and I'll give it a water test. Maybe this coming weekend.
