Default V 21 with 250 hp outboard

Saw one for sale .....that’s interesting since 50 hp over rating.

Some claim insurance co’s will allow % over.

My Marine Shop won’t even rig an outboard that’s over the rating.

Seems Coast Guard inspection would fail too.

Interesting topic since smaller “ speed boats” often have huge HP and
are allowed.......such as bass boats that run 70 mph .

I *think* the max rating is 225 HP. I could be wrong. Personally I would not put any more than 200 HP on a V20. I mean, it *could* be done, but why?

D, me, I wouldn't. My friend had a Yammie on it when he bought it, put on the Johnson 150, That went down. Then he got an ETEC 200, had problems with that, got another, trouble with that one. Then he noticed water coming in from the transom, thinks he fixed it, now he has gotten another 200 ETEC. I told him I think the leaks are from stress being put on that transom, taking motors on and off, plus the extra weight on a boat that's 35 years old. He say's they tell him it's fine. IDEAS???? Here's a picture of the boat when they 1st bought it back in 2010, after I washed and waxed.

Lightest 300 hp outboard might be perfect for V !
Since Destroyer and I had transoms “fused solid “
could handle the torque.....

I never was a fan of the Franken-transom on the V-21. I d fell more at ease with a 250 on a bracket and a V20 that has a fresh transom
