Default My 2nd V20

This is my latest V20 1983. Volvo 570 I/O. Great running boat. It’s cosmetically challenged, but I am working on that. The boat primarily operates on Lake Mead with an occasional offshore trip off Southern California. I don’t see a whole lot of them out here on the left coast. My first V20 was a 1976 in Florida. I always liked these boats so when I saw this one for sale I jumped on it.

I am curious about the engine/outdrive on it. Volvo 570 (5.7) with a 280 SP. I have never seen this combo on a V20, and can’t find any info on it. It appears to be a factory installation, but you never know.

Welcome aboard. Never saw that combo either, but a 5.7L engine (345 cu in) Should be good for 375 -390 hp I'm guessing that boat will fly.

It runs very good. I operate it fairly conservatively, I normally run it about 3200 rpm on plane and that gets me about 38 mph on the GPS. I have had it up to about 45 mph, but it handles a little spooky at that speed, when the water is not absolutely flat. 38 mph is good enough for me, it’s a fishing boat. ***128514;

I was thinking that motor was 265-280 HP.

Well, of course any motor can be de-tuned or carbed to hit a specific range of hp, but I was using my Dodge Durango as a baseline. I have the 5.7L hemi engine in my truck and my rated HP is around 345 HP, but depending on the year the rated HP can be anywhere up to 390HP stock from the factory. However, I should have noted that it's a Hemi engine which increases the HP by about 100 HP over a non-hemi engine. So with that in mind I think you would be safe in thinking that a non-hemi engine could easily be in the 245 to 285 HP range you were thinking.
