I think they are going to hit a home run with this one, but it is ugly
175,200, 225 hp, 475lbs normally asperated https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/...Outboard-Motor we will probably see a supercharged version displacing the verado next year |

from what i have heard the pricing will be about the same as the new opti line. If that and the numbers they are claiming are true. ohhh man I think I want one!

they,ve been testing those in our bay for about 6 months. was not sure what they were, no decals on cowlings. they sound great and scoot along pretty good.
they do look better on a hull and in the water than on an engine stand. from what i've read, $3000-$4000 over the 1504S. some nice features, add and check oil without removing cowling, fly by wire or cable control, power steering assist with the backlog of people waiting on yamaha's, lotta gray may be going to black |

been talking about these motors to a lot of guys that past few days. Ive never been a big fan of the verado, its too heavy and needs boost to make power. This motor displaces more cubes than the Verado and being a V block should be stronger to allow more boost if needed. When you figure in they are 150 lbs lighter than the V Rods, I dont see them being around too much in the future for mercury. They sell the 400 with a one year warranty now, I've heard its a 500 hour motor and has to run 93 octane. i doubt it makes a full 400(SAE allows a 10% variance). Apples to apples test of 300 to 350 hp Vrods make very little difference Ive been saying Mercury has been bluffing with those motors, The new engine should be able to back up their claims and offer an honest 400 hp. Suzuki had their new 350 at the Charleston show last month, they are supposedly going to offer a supercharged version at 400-450 next fall. . I guess Honda might get off their *** and show up with a 275 one of these days

they've already been nicknamed traffic cones.
![]() General opinion is BRP paid them a lot of money to make the G2 look better by comparison

![]() I went to a boat show this weekend. at least 90% of the boats had Yamahas on them. I was asking around about a price for repower of my grady265 with inline4 200s. Some just hemmed & hawed cause they want to sell boats not motors. All Yamaha dealers said they can't get anything over a 150 due to backlog at Yamaha. Suzuki said the motor guy would have to call me... I honestly haven't even considered Mercury but these new ones might deserve a look. I won't be repowering until next season at the soonest unless my lottery ticket pays off....

I had a deal on Yamahas but it fell thru, I can sell you a new Suzuki or Hinda thru one of my distributors. If you're not a full line merc dealer, you're not going to be able to get your hands on a loose Merc. That's a bug reason Merc has lost so much market share. Merc pushes their motors, bolted to their boats. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, are going to the independent manufactures to sell motors. Watch this shortage of yamahas t hurt them next year.
Ive got my buddy with the Sea Vee thinking hard about twin 225 3.4 engines. hes probably going to find a pair of 250XS motors for it though |

A couple of things I don't like first it is a ugly design second forget about doing any work on it yourself third expensive forth expensive and they said it starts right up ,my 1988 150 Mercury starts right up too , and I don't like four strokes you are probably going to have to go back a lot of times for maintenance I'm just old school I guess
