Need to move and/or get rid of my 82 V 20. It has been on a trailer for about 8 years in my parent’s driveway. The house is in the process of being sold. The trailer cross beams have given way to rust even though I blocked the boat to take some of the strain off the trailer. The trailer is a single axle EZ Loader. I just raised the boat up higher on the blocks thinking that maybe I can replace the cross beams myself and move the boat to another location and buy myself some time to decide if I want to keep it, sell it or donate it to a charity.
Has anyone replaced the cross beams on a trailer? It seems straight forward to replace them. I searched Google and You Tube and could find any decent links for this process. Is it best to cut the cross beams and move the trailer out from under the boat to replace the beams or raise the boat high enough to replace the beams with the trailer under the boat? I think a pair of crossbeams for this trailer will run me about $500 delivered from a distributor, not including new hardware. A new inexpensive trailer will run abound $2,000 which I do not have and is prob more than the boat is worth. Any advice on replacing the trailer cross beams or other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bill

every trailer i've ever seen, you had to cut the cross beams out and weld new ones in. this would be a major pia. might be good to post a pic

Good idea. The cross beams drop into hangers. I will take pics this weekend. This pic of a hanger is from the EZ Loader parts website.

so the hanger bolts to the frame and then the cross beam drops in and thru bolts to the bracket? never seen that, seems kinda weak and prone to rust.
i just replaced the tongue on my trailer with a piece of 4x3 galvanized tubing 8 ft long, it was $100 from a local trailer shop. might just get the hangers from EZ and the beams locally. if your not launching the boat, just trying to make it mobile, why not jack it up and just put a 4x4 across on top of the the frame and lay the boat on it while you move it. |

Great ideas! So glad I posted here. I will look into galvanized beams local as well as using wood beam to move the boat out of the driveway.

I've still got an old tandem trailer for a v20 that I was thinking of selling to scrap yard next week. I could part with it for a couple hundred.
It is certainly usable in its current state. Bought a new one cause it has 20 year old tires with lots of tread, brakes been removed for 10 years, could use new springs. But it rolls, it launched my boat in the spring. Frame is fine. Old trailer in the background of photo. I'm in Toms River, Send me a PM
