how can you tell if your gas is to old it has staybil in it but its still from last year and with the price of gas i would hate to dump 50 gallons of gas. i have a 1986 rude 120 and its not running 100% when idling it will bogg down a little then shoot out a puff of smoke then idle back up

Ihardly used my boat last year (3 times) i just started it and it ran, and i have had 110 gal!! but i do this every winter, fill it up and no condensation gets in.
you could drain it and use in car and refill boat if you think its not that good?? just do a little at a time. carbs could be gummed up also?? when you winterize it do you run it out of gas?? i always unplug fuel line and run till it dies on its own, then i no they are empty.

as mj says, no problem, if you have a good fuel filter with water seperator. if your really concerned, pump some in a clear jar and see what it looks like. if its clear and no water, ok. my dads truck sat up for about 6 months and when we went to crank it, no go. we drained the tank and it was bad, not water, but had a cloudy look to it.

I got almost 20 gals of gas out of the tank of my Cruisers boat before I scrapped it a few weeks ago. It had been sitting for 3 years but was treated with Sta-Bil. My lawn equipment loves it. Not a problem with the mower, tractor, and 2 string trimmers. (oh, and 5 gals went into my car and no problems there either). As long as the gas is clear and there's no sediment it will mix with fresh gas and burn fine. I would not use it in your outboard though... they tend to be a little more picky on the gas they drink.
