Hey guys, just got back from an awesome week with my 3 and 6 year old girls, the wife and the V20. We went to lake Nubanusett in NH. Very nice uncrowded 650 acre lake. My brothers and sisters and nieces/nephews came too. About 20 of us for a week, the V ran flawless every day waterskiing tubimg site seeing..... it was a blast!
At night when the boat was at dock I saw a constant film of oil coming from the middle trim piston. Then when I went to take the boat out yesterday (the last day , thank God). the lower unit bumped the sandy bottom at the ramp. boat was not in gear. I lost my up and down for the most part. It will go up slowly, hesitating... but once all the way up it aint going back down. I have to release the motor using the screw on the side. Whats the best way to diagnose this and is it an at home fix? Simple gaskets/rings? It is an all original 1999 Yamaha Salt Water Series 200hp, carbed. If you look at pics it looks like it is blown out. Where would I get the tool to remove the cap? I am guessing that I have to use those four holes on the top. One of my 1986 Yamaha 150s did the same thing. But it only did it for 3 weeks then it stopped. But i put atf fluid in it with stop leak to refill it from every time it leaked down. My Yamaha Book says that transmission fluid can be substituted for tilt trim fluid.

showa trim system, welcome to the world of Yamaha repairs(and some OMC's), got three jobs lined up next week for the same issue. Remove the fill cap on the reservoir and fill it with some trim oil, if it has water mixed in with it, you will need to f;lush the water out of it. If it gets too involved, you can remove the whole trim system to work on it at a bench. You will need a spanner wrench to remove the end caps
