Default Engine purchase possibility

So the other day, a "friend" of mine called me and said he has a '90 Suzuki 225 for sale for $500 with the controls and everything. He says it runs but it isn't on a boat. I don't know how to test it obviously or even check to see if the compression is up to spec. Any ideas if this is worth the investment? Would love some feedback from you guys.

By the way, not sure if I would put this on the V but was thinking if it ran I could sell it and use the money to possibly upgrade the 84 E-rude 150 I have (even though I love it).....last part was for the motor in case it can hear me

if its on a stand you can do a compression test with it cold, just hook to a battery and jump the solenoid. if it were me id put it on the v, atleast try it on her and decide if its too much or not, be easier to sell if you could demonstrate also.

Be VERY careful of corrosion on that engine as well as the fuel injection system(all 225's are fuel injected). Compression I believe should be around 110-115 for that engine.

if you got an old beater pickup truck the tailgate can make a good stand. just make sure you dont let it take the whole weight of the engine.and tie the engine down good

I 2nd the internal corrosion watch out.......

If you really want it - take it to a Zuk dealer and have them go through it.
Might be money well spent.
