Default Hit and Run

A couple of weeks ago my family headed out for a week of much needed rest and relaxation. My wife left with the Forerunner before me loaded with stuff. I did a few more things around the house and mounted a set of teak and stainless steel steps on the V. After I washed and waxed the V, I hooked to it and headed on down too. I got 25 minutes from the house, in Elizabeth City, and while stopped at a stoplight a young girl slammed right into my boat. I got out to check the damage and she was standing beside her car, cell phone in hand, asking me was my boat ok. I kneeled down to look at the outdrive and she jumped in her car and hauled a$$. I didnt get her lic number but went to the EC police dept and filed a report. I was lucky I had the outdrive trimmed up I guess, it chipped the skeg and scratched up the lower unit and left some burgandy paint on the SS prop. It peeled her hood back and busted her grill and headlight. The policeman said she was probably texting and probably didn't have any insurance anyway. Ive fixed all the damage but it still pisses me off! So yall watch out for those a$$holes that think they cay can text and drive!

What the hell C you have some bad luck. I bet she had insurance but was afraid daddy would ground her. If you gave the police the lic # they should be able to trace it.

one of the reasons I always have my camera ready, if you get into an accident, after making sure everyones OK, start taking pics, if some ones thinking about running, they won't after you've taken pics

Not trying to hijack your thread, I got into an accident last week. Guy come out of mc donalds not watching, trying to eat his mcmuffin and cut me off then slammed on his brakes UNDER A GREEN LIGHT! I was already locked up and couldn't stop any more. I hit him about 5-10 mph. Did about $200 damage to my truck. But his Kia Rio's trunk was in his back seat. Worst of all i got a ticket for careless driving. But i did knock his mcmuffin out his window. After that i decided to buy a heavy duty bumper like the one in the picture below. Moral of the story: dont eat and drive.

X2... That is really sound advice.
I've learned that lesson the hard way... My Jeeps been hit from behind twice... both times by young women that were using their cell phones at the time. The second time the girl tried to run but I had my camera in hand and got several shots of her license plate as she drove away in her boyfriends BMW.. police tracked her down and threw the book at her.. her excuse was she was scared of telling her boyfriend...

Always, always have a camera in the cars console.. they are really cheap insurance... plus they are great for the ins company to see what really happened ...not just what someone said... 1 pic = 1000 words. (or more)

Yep, I wished I'd had a camera handy. Maybe I coulda got her lic number. It was a burgandy Buick, maybe a century, older small car. She was a young (25 or so) white girl, med length black hair. Probably never see her again. I took a grinder and flapper disc and cleaned up the skeg. Sanded and painted the lower unit. It looks better than it did before!

My daughter is about to turn 15 and get her permit, not only stories like these but knowing we live in Johnston County, which has a really problem with teen drivers and accidents, scare the crap out of me. Especially with her being as "random" as she is to begin with. Maybe I will look into one of those heavy duty bumpers for her first car.
