| No Stripers...

Went out early Sunday morning, tried everything I had, not a single hit. I saw some other boats pull one in once in while. But not me, getting a little frustrated. Then my daughter-in-law and family came aboard for some family fishing. Catching scupp and black bass like crazy. Too bad scupp are so boney we were catching some good size ones. rkc

Great picture..thanks for sharing. ... and do you notice the look on the little one's face? he's not looking at the camera.. he's looking for approval by the one standing on his right. "Look what I did Grandpa... did I do it right"? is written all over his face. You're a lucky man RKC... Well done!!!

Thanks, Yes, I was all around that area. I mostly tried trolling with my christmas tree which had mostly green\silver chads, I then changed most of them to white and some silver ones. I tried casting with just white chads. I tried trolling with a silver spoon which has a small red tube, then I added a seaworm. I tried drifting with live eel and also clams. There were some bird activity, but not allot. If I saw some group activity, I would meander over to it. rkc

the canal is tough for trolling since the tide runs 5 or 6 kts through there. if youre going to troll then wire line or lead core are needed for most things to run right. if youre intent on fishing that area i would try some deep diving hardbaits. alot of guys have been doing ok with xraps. rubber shad aka swim baits work well when the fish are on top. myself personally i dont like fishing the canal unless the topwater bit is off the hook, which it was when i talked to you there. ive moved to fishing the structure further south in buzzards bay with parachute jigs on wire line or chunking pogies while anchored over some structure. there are some bay side spots that you could get to from the ramp in sandwich that may be worth checking out. barnstable harbor and billingsgate shoal have been VERY hot lately with some guys average fish being 25 or 30lbs. one last piece of advice if youre going to try and learn buzzards bay, striped bass love structure and moving water. in the bay that means rockpiles, ledges, and reefs. almost all of them hold fish at one time or another. if there is any other way i can help dont be afraid to ask, i know the area like the back of my hand since i grew up less than a mile from the maratime academy and ive been saltwater fishing inshore and offshore for 30 years

Hey, RKC, you and I appear to be among the minority here in running I/O's in our V20's. I noticed the really nice access doors you have in your transom area in each side of the motorbox. I have a 1991 V20 cuddy with a 4.3 litre Mercruiser (2007 vintage) but do not have those access doors. I have to access everything either through the hatches on each side of the motorbox or through the motor box. I like the setup you have. Was that standard for your year of V20?
