Welcome! I have never owned an Airslot or the 140 Mercruiser BUT I have had 2 good friends who have(the Mercruiser)....and they were a nightmare. They are basically half of a Ford 460 block.....but every part is Mercruiser...both guys ended up selling after a couple years

I'm not a big I/O fan, but we'd also like to know what shape the boat is in...solid floors, clean gelcoat, motors good running, clean/dirty, serviceable trailer, top w/enclosure?...

Have you sea-trialed it?...checked the dipsticks in the motors?...good oil/black oil/no oil?...water in lower units?...

Answers to these questions and more would determine value, but in the end, what's it worth to YOU?

Good luck w/your decision...let us know what you do...

The 3.7L 165/170/188hp is the "half a 460". The block was made by Mercury, with Ford pistons, rods, and heads.

The 140 is the GM Iron Duke, which is a tried and true workhorse.

I stand corrected----no offense to the "Iron Duke"

I'm in total agreement with everything Reelapeelin said, and I'd also like to add the following thought:

The fact is, the market is very depressed right now with a lot of people without jobs, inflation, cost of gas, etc. My point is that 4K for a boat of that year seems to be a lot, no matter what the condition. Unless he's willing to deal, I'd walk away.... but that's just me and you may see things differently. Good luck with your search and wellcome to the site.

Hey thanks guys for the replies-I was sent "out" for awhile, and just got back- the guy is stuck on his price-I really like the boat-it will probably need the stringers and transom replaced, and the 4 cylinder dukes are raw water cooled-that will need to be addressed-

I'd make this a project boat- and I was wondering what kind of costs I might be looking at replacing stringers and perhaps transom. I'd probably go through the dukes and see what they needed and put a heat exchanger on them- and go through the outdrives-

Thanks for any input-

Quil

I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for a boat like that, and that is if it was till running. Your looking at some big bucks if you can't do the fiberglass work yourself. Many shops down here charge $3-8K to do a transom depending on what all it takes, and stringers are MAJOR work any way you slice it.

to be honest, $1500 is still a little on the high side, for what you'll end up in that boat making it safe and seaworthy, you could buy a nice boat ready to use. I guess if you did all the work yourself, you're going to end up with at least $10,000 in it, if you have to farm anything out, double that

Four grand is WAY too high! Shop around for a while and don't fall in love. Make yourself look at as many Airslots as possible (like at least 10) before plunking down any cash.
