Default Grouper season open in the Southeast Atlantic

We got outta Mayport in some 3-5 ft seas in a friends boat on Sunday for the 1st day of grouper hunting. I honestly think my V would've handled it better than Dave's 23' Seapro, but that's another story. We got a few flounder, a trigger, and two grouper. The big one was 34"... my personal best.

I have a couple of friends who have SeaPro's and when we all go out most of the time my V leads the way in bad seas to cut the way for them to have a softer ride. Also they tend to get wet where we stay dry in my boat.

Awesome fish....you know they have these new inventions out now...about 6-7' long with this contraption on the bottom that lets line in and out....you can actually catch the fish from INSIDE the boat.

It was a very wet ride.

We brought them with us, but I do better from underwater. You honestly can't get bait through the red snapper and seabass here, both of which are closed by the fed govt for being overfished.

Nice black, MJ. Looks bigger than 35. Watch out for the gills on those things - they'll do some damage.

Very nice! Fine eating right there! Best grouper fishing Iver ever seen was the month after Katrina hit here. We had two man limits in about 30 minutes of snapper AND grouper in 2 hours and 50' of water. Crazy!
