Hello everyone,
I'm the owner of a V20 outboard and i would like to have in permanence a kicker on the transom. Q.1 Now, i have a tilt one and it is rate to a max of 20Hp. The E-TEc i would like to put on is a 25 hp. Is it to big for the one already install ? Q.2 I will use the kicker for trolling when i will be on fishing mode. Do you beleive of the efficacite of a 15 Hp fotr that or a must upgrade it to a 25 Hp. ? Thanks, Jean

Hi JeanF. Welcome to the site. To answer your question, I use a 9.9hp Honda 4 stroker and it does the job fine. Don't forget, the primary job of a kicker is to move you through the water slowly. I truthfully think that most trolling applications you could get by with a 5hp. I mean really, what does it take to move the boat 1-3 mph? Not much I'll wager. I completely agree with MJ that a 15 is all anyone would need.

I currently have a 5 HP 4 Stroke which works great for trolling etc....
However here is a solution if you really like to up the HP for whatever reasons.. http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/...ate_kicker.cfm Hydraulic Kicker Jack Plate - Rated to 40HP With a maximum engine rating of 40 hp, BMS's hydraulic kickerjackplate provides slow-speed power for cruisers, auxiliary power for sailboats and trolling power for fishermen. |

I think they're all good. I like Johnson/Evinrude & Yamaha. Mainly becuase that is all I've ever owned and I know a little bit about them.
Go with what you know.

Hi Guy,
I added a kicker to my v-20 cuddy about 2 weeks ago, had it out April 2nd,(COLD) and the combo preformed great. The bracket is from Panther Marine Products, model #55-0020 in Stainless Steel (E-bay, $75.00) and the kicker is a low hour Mercury 7.5 hp. For trolling with a kicker, you really don't need much hp. I wouldn't go much over 10 hp., and the bracket I mentioned above, is rated for 20 hp 2 cycle, it had no 4 stroke rating listed, Hope this helps. Fitz '77 V-20 cuddy, 115 merc, E-Z loader trailer |
