hi is it common for the harmonic balancer to spin timing marks r out and is the timing 6 deg

can't quite understand what you mean by spin the timing marks out. As far as timing goes, there was a service buliten to set timimg on all 3.7 motors to 4 degrees btdc

If I understand you correctly, NO, it is not common for the harmonic balancer to spin. The balancer is made up of several parts. The inner circle with the crank shaft hole, the leather hub packing and the outer ring. Not sure of the proper names for them, so those are just my descriptions... but the outer ring on the balancer is wedged to the inner ring (like a prop hub) by the packing and should not be able to spin without the entire unit turning.

OK WELL I TRIED TO SET UP THE TIMING TO THE MARKS IT HAS A BIG GROVE ON THE BALANCER ITS ABOUT 2 INCHES OF THE MARK AND WHEN U TRY TO BRING IT BACK THE MOTOR STALLS TODAY ILL GET NUMBER ONE SPARK PLUG OUT BRING OT TO TDC AND REMARK IT I MAY HAVE TO TRY AND USE A DIAL INDICATOR IF TIMING SETTING R CRITICAL

well guess what i marked the wrong grove it has one deep one and a light grove it was the light grove one timing is set but the timing mark is floating so i will need to fit a electronic kit to fix it thanks for replys
