Default Fuel delivery issue

I was driving in on Saturday after a good day of black seabass fishing with my Dad. The ride in was about 30 minutes at 3500 rpm with no problems. After I was in sheltered water, I went WOT and after about a minute the engine shut down. No alarms - no bad noise - just rpms went to 0 and it would not restart. After a few minutes of investigation, I checked the fuel bulb and it was soft. I pumped it up hard and the engine started and we got home with no further issues.

Wondering what the problem might be. Could it be as simple as bad bulb. Or maybe something worse. The bulb and attached fuel line are 3-4 years old.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated

It's a 150 mariner 1988 vintage

Thanks

Carl
