Default More Kicker Advice

I know this has been discussed over and over again and I read all 8 pages from the search, I have that whopper 235 on the back and I want to stay as light as possible on a kicker. I will be mostly in the Chesapeake Bay close to shore. This motor is close by and if it goes cheap enough I thought about picking it up if it will work. So I thought I would ask the experts advice first. Is it enough power for my V? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-hp-...spagenameZWDVW

I honestly don't know because I have 9.9 and not a 6hp. It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to use it to slow troll in calm water at 1 mph - 4 mph I'd say it would work.

It doesn't look like a long shaft to me. For peace of mind I would have him measure it to be sure or get the serial nos.

Its a nice looking motor.

Agree with BR, looks like a short shaft or the picture could be decieving(compressed)
It will push you around, I think in my mind a ten horse would be the minimum though, it pushed my V at just at 10 mph.

Thanks guys, I thought it looked a bit short myself but wasn't sure. I agree I need at least 9.9. It was close by but I am not in a big hurry so I will wait it out until another one shows up.

while we're on the topic, any of you guys w/ kicker motors have some good info on the bracket used?.....good ones, not so good ones, stainless steel vs. aluminium, fixed vs. adjustable etc. etc. I have a newly acquired 1996 8hp 20" Johnson 2cyl. [that I got for free] a few months ago. My two projects, that I have yet to start on either, are to lower my bow rail and mount the kicker. I think the kicker project has priority at this time. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Phes just get a decent quality stainless that lets you raise it out of the water. they are rated by horsepower, mostly for weight purposes.
My G3 has a cast stainless fixed type put on by the dealer, mount height based on shaft length and clearance, very solid, has enough height to keep it out of the water.

I've seen a few "Garilick"[?] products and looked at a few on Ebay. I'm more inclined to go bran new unless I stumble across a deal I can't refuse. It seems that the adjustable ones are the way to go....5 different hi/lo settings. Even saw one were the bracket comes off the mount [I like that idea as well] Considering what the 8hp has cost me, I'm not afraid to lay out a few extra bucks on a good bracket. Thanks ,Will
