Well you could fix the holes, then paint with chalk board paint, then when you need to make a quick note, just write there, or cover with the white board and make it a dry erase board for the same, I know a guy that has a dry erase board on his boat and love it!

I have a grease pencil and write in the window and clean later, but I am going to put a small dry board in mine.
