there are specific test to check a stator, but you have to have a peak voltage adaptor to check them, you can go to rapair.com to check on the adaptor and to go thru the test sequince. So other hints to check is to check the sator lead with an ohm meter, check for resistance to ground and to check for an open circut between wires( can't remember which color) . Another thing to do is loook under the flywheel and see if there is any brown goo laying on the top of the motor, its an idication of the stator overheating, it melts the potting out of the stator.
