Re: CANYA STAND ONE MORE?
hey stinker, dogs are basically dumb animals. their intelegence has been likened to a one year old baby when they are adults.
the two most important things to remember when training a dog, (and i used to get paid to teach obedience) are...
1. one word commands. not sit down, come here etc...
SIT! COME! DOWN!
spoken firmly but without shouting. when he disobeys say a firm "NO" and clap your hands loudly at the same time. this will get his attention and also be a little unpleasant for him. he will soon associate the word "NO" with a loud and unpleasant noise. soon after, just "NO" will do the trick.
2. positive re-enforcement. when the pup has an accident on the floor, catch him during or just after, say "NO" in a firm voice and immediately bring him to the paper or area and say "PAPER" in a firm voice. keep him on the paper until he does his thing. if he already finished his thing on the floor, he will soon get the idea that paper is the place to go. also, next time, try to be there when it does happen. when he does go on the paper show him how happy you are with him. positive re-enforcement.
never shove his nose in his mistake but show it to him and then bring him to the paper.
be patient and dont let up (give up). that pup will be trained in two to three weeks.
