Default Re: Verado experiences, Grady and Angler...

A guy down the creek from me has a new Mako 19 Angler with a Verado 150 on it . A VERY expensive , heavy, low cubic inch, computer complicated engine loaded with all the bells and whistles including power steering , supercharged this and that etc. It gets outstanding gas mileage at low to mid throttle but if you run it flat out its a gas hog. In my opinion this is what Mercury will probably end up with as their only big engine in a couple of years as the Opti started off on the wrong foot and burned a lot of guys (me included) and has not caught on plus Mercury has still got a bad reputation regarding warranty claims and service..I hope they get their act together and hang in there but I will never buy another merc as I had major problelms with the three I've had plus poor customer service..The good news is that there will be a supply of low hour 2 strokes for sale for a few years that probably just need the carbs cleaned for a fourth of the price of a new 4 stroke that few mechanics feel comfortable working on...I also know a guy with a new Suzuki 250 four stroke on his 20 foot whaler and he loves it. Its quiet, excellent gas mileage , very high cubic inch but heavy and sits right at the scupper line but a nice running motor and I see more and more of them every day. This guy had had a 1998 225 Johnny ocean runner on it that had less than 400 hours which to me was just about broken in...Just my opinion ...Frank
