Actually CBE the full across transom is all I have seen in pre 1988 boats that were sea drives, that is what mine is, 1985 V20 sea drive converted to bracket/outboard.
Thats why I think yours and Grace's are so interesting to me, never seen that kind of transom before.
Maybe BS or someone else who knows more of the history of the V's could shed some light. You know someone who was around way back then, not like me 8)
