When I towed my V up there this October to visit my Mom, the crew and I went for a ride fr9om Scituate Harbor to the North River. We launched at about dead low tide, so it was a flood tide when we entered the river. After entering the inlet, you can either go west/northwest to the North River, or go south/southeast to the South River (figure that). After going a couple hundred yards in the South River, there is a sharp turn to the east if you want to stay in the channel (and yes, you do want to stay in the channel). I had let my 15 year old son take the helm because we were just going along at about 5 mph (speed limit in that part of the river) and that flood tide was just pulling the channel marker over on its side. As my son was rounding to the east, all of a sudden the stern broke loose and wanted to go south along with the flood tide. I had to grab the helm to keep us from doing a 360 right there in the river. We were not in any real danger, but it is amazing how powerful the water is in that area, even when there is no wave action from the ocean. Learned my lesson that I should NEVER let the kid take the helm in the North/South river area.
