We have a couple of oil-filled electric heaters that look a lot like the old steam radiators. They work well and don’t get hot enough to set anything on fire. They’re radiant only, so they work best in an area with minimal draft.

I also have a small ceramic heater that will heat a small room which I use often in my large unheated shop - just place it near where I’m working. I think I it also is cool enough to not be a fire hazard and it has a safety switch that shuts it off if it tips over.

In your situation, I’d google “electric space heater reviews” or something like that. You would probably find something that suits your situation and be able to find one at a good price at Amazon, Home Depot, etc.

It sounds like you need something that will provid enough heat while being safe in two ways -it won’t start a fire, no matter what and won’t burn your dad, no matter what.
