Funny you should have a rubber boat. I have one also. Mine is a Mercury, with a 9.9 Force engine. I agree with everything you said about how seaworthy they are. To my mind they are perfect for exploring lakes, rivers, and bays. I can carry it in the back of my Durango, put in the floorboards, inflate it and be
fishing or exploring in less than a half hour.
