Alot of the time codes like M5 and such are just to say what line they came off of. A company the size of Johnson Control(the maker of 90% of the batteries out there including wally worlds everstart line) has ALOT of different plants and lines that make batteries, so it helps them to keep track of warranty issues that may be able to be isolated to one line.
