It atatched completely to the stringers of the boat, and only used a heavy rubber boot to seal it to the transom. It really wasnt a bad idea, but that rubber boot posed a SERIOUS safety hazard. One tear in a rubber, and you lost everything(I'll let others catch onto the "other" meaning).
