will the engine start if you don't prime the bulb? Keep in mind, the primer bulb will not stay hard under normal use. When you pump up the bulb, you are pressurizing the system from the bulb, thru the line, to the fuel pump, then to the carb. When you run the engine, the fuel pump sucks from the line (pulling a vacuum on the bulb) and pressureizing from the fuel pump to the carb. You shouldnt expect the primer bulb to stay hard. If you have any doubt on the bulb, replace it with a new one,don't use afetrmarket, only Mercury, Bomb(OMC), or Yamaha(same as the other japanese bulbs). Aftermarket bulbs suck, Ive thrown many Moelers, Sieera, Attwood, etc in the trash over the years
