No, they have bay scallops on the island. They have commercial & residential seasons but I think you have to be a resident of the island.
My wife has a friend there, I've stayed there a couple times. Like another planet...would love to take the V20 there for a week!
Actually, bay scallops are native to the east coast but they got wiped out in the 50's. They are still around on Long Island and in NJ wherever there is eel grass they could be around.
I see the shells all the time on beaches.
The sea scallops are out in 200 ft or more (50 miles). See the boats working the Glory Hole & Chicken canyon. Bluefins will follow the boats when they are shucking. Quite a few boats work out of Point Pleasant
