The 1st thing to look at on a SUZUKI is to check the lower unit for cracks where the prop slides in. They corrode and split where the propshaft supports goes in 1st. The problem is they also corrode internally in the lower portion of the powerhead, and SUZUKI didn't think to make the zincs inside the powerhead replaceable without tearing the engine apart. Even freshwater used SUZUKIs can corrode out fairly bad. My grandfather bought an old pontoon boat that had never left Missouri, and the 87 SUZUKI engine had pretty substantial corrosion inside of all the cooling system.
