The pump was full of varnish, which I removed and cleaned out, cleaned off the seats where the two halves come together, and there was a little varnish on the edges of the diaphragm, but not much and it was on the outside. The diaphragm itself looked good without any tears or wear spots. Any ideas guys?

I just had someone turn the engine over while I checked the suction off the pump...almost nothing.
