Mine angle straight back 30 degrees.  I didn't trim the rod boxes, just the bottom edge of the holders that mount in the top of the gunnels.  Didn't take off much, just some off the bottom edge where it was contacting the top of the rod box.  My rod holders have black rubber plugs which keep the rain out.
