All your doing is completeing the circuit, besides it uses the ground (negetive).
My only concern is, the sender is just a rheostat and will it damage it by shorting the two wires? It shouldn't, it's just a switch basically.
The two to cross at the gauge is the "S" and the "G".
Uh, if it was wired correctly. :D
