The 4.7L can be a good engine, but requires FREQUENT oil changes or else it WILL let go on you. The 5.7L has been a decent engine, but I would avoid the early ones with the MDS system that drops back to a 4 cylinder. DODGE had some issues with it early on. The 45RFE and 545RFE trannies are pretty good trannies unlike the dodges of yesteryear. The 9 1/4 rear end used in the trucks can be troublesome as I used to rebuild a few of them when I worked for DODGE. And then there is the interiors that are all plastic and are KNOWN for squeaks and rattles. The new ones with the 4.7L/5.7L aren't horrible trucks, but there is a reason why they are cheaper than GM and FORD.
