First thing I would do though is disconnect the arm from the tiller that goes to the rod and make sure its not your motor pivot that is not stiff. Thats the problem with mine. If it is actually the rod inside the tilt tube the only way to fix it right is to pull the rod out and clean the inside of the tilt tube and reinstall. That means unbolting the motor from the transom to get it out.

http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...ad.php?t=17829 |  RW hit the nail on the head with the Steersman Nuts. They are the only way I know of to get greese on the end of the steering cable.  And since that's where 90% of your cable problems happen, it just seems foolish not the buy one of them.  Less than $25 and you're saving yourself a lot of future trouble.
