It's not a bad idea. Basically, he's putting some extra mass between the screws and the hull, so the screws don't go into the hull gellcoat and fiberglass.....not a bad idea really. But truthfully, $60 for some epoxy and a 3x4 inch piece of starboard is a little pricey for my blood. I wonder how a piece of Teak would work? I'm sure there are other materials that will work just as well, and for a cheaper price. In all cases I'm going to try to mount my 2 transducers inside my hull and shoot thru the bottom.
