If it's the the tilt tube, maybe you could have a machine shop turn some sleeves to fit over your tilt tube to make it snug in the '85 transom bracket. Heck, that might even work if it's the pivot tube. I don't know enough about how all that stuff fits together...

I have already thought about that. And will be my next move. I have that whole mid section transom mount bracket assembly. All I would to do is sleeve the vertical shaft some how. And get a used trim and tilt assembly. I'm not trying to half *** it but how harm can you do if you keep the grease to her.
