Everyone has an opinion on where and how to mount thier kicker, and if it works, then they were totally correct. I use an Easy-In" type of mount that lets me adjust the depth of my kicker depending on the weight that I'm carrying. (Also, it was free which was a big reason for using it) But I like it and it works, so for me it's the right choice. If you get a fixed mount type they tend to be closer to the transom. You'll have to get rid of one of your swim platforms. In all cases you want your engine to hang so that when you're using it in the vertical positon the anti-ventilation plate (some ppl wrongly call it the cavitation plate) is about a half inch to an inch under the water. As to the steering question, most kits are fully adjustable so that you can adjust it to your needs.

If God didn't have a purpose for us we wouldn't be here, so
Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly.
(Leave the rest to God)

Silence, in the face of evil, is itself evil. Not to speak is to speak, not to act is to act. God will not hold us guiltless.
