I'd do everything that RW just said, but before I did anything else I'd make sure that the engine was ok. You said you hit the button and nothing happens, so if it was me I'd first hot wire the starter and make sure the engine turns over, then put muffs on her and try and start her before anything else. Once I know that the engine is ok then I'd proceed with all the other stuff.
